Crown And Bridges
Dental Crowns & Bridges
If you have a damaged, decayed, or missing tooth, a crown or bridge can restore your smile. Crowns are custom-made caps that cover (or “cap”) a compromised tooth to restore its shape, strength, and appearance. Bridges are false teeth held by crowns on adjacent teeth, filling the gap of one or more missing teeth. Our Kampala clinic offers both, using durable materials tailored to your needs.
- Restores bite and function: Crowns/bridges allow you to chew normally and protect the underlying teeth from further damage
- Natural appearance: We use materials like porcelain/ceramic, zirconia, or metal alloys (gold, silver, PFM) that mimic real teeth
- Benefits of crowns: A crown can save a tooth with a large cavity or crack, preventing extraction. It also covers and protects after a root canal. With proper care, a crown can last 10–15 years or more, even up to 30 years
- Benefits of bridges: Bridges replace missing teeth without surgery. They typically last 5–15 years depending on material and care, and prevent neighboring teeth from drifting into the empty space.
- Quality materials: Our crowns and bridges are lab-crafted for durability.
How It Works: Generally, getting a crown or bridge requires two visits. In the first visit, we numb the area, reshape the affected teeth, and take impressions. These impressions are sent to a lab to fabricate your custom crown/bridge. You’ll receive a temporary restoration in the meantime. At the second visit, we remove the temporary, check the fit and shade, and bond the final crown/bridge into place. You may feel some sensitivity for a few days, but most patients quickly adjust.
Common Questions
A crown covers and strengthens a single existing tooth, whereas a bridge replaces a missing tooth by spanning the gap (it is anchored by crowns on neighbouring teeth)
With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, most crowns last 5–15 years (and sometimes much longer)
. Bridges last about 5–15 years as well
. We’ll advise you on maintenance to help them last as long as possible.
Crowns/Bridges often cost less and require less invasive surgery than implants. They are ideal when there’s enough healthy tooth or when implants are not an option. We’ll review all options with you.
